Christopher Ramaekers is currently conductor of the Orchestra of St. Vincent’s, Music Director of the Hyde Park Youth Symphony, and Principal Conductor of the Ravenswood Community Orchestra.  As a guest conductor, Chris has appeared with the Kalamazoo Symphony, North Shore Chamber Orchestra, the Alice Millar Brass Ensemble and Chapel Choir, and orchestras and bands at Northwestern University and Western Michigan University

An advocate of new music, Chris has been Conductor of the New Music Project since its inception in 2004.  Based in Kalamazoo, MI, the New Music Project is dedicated to the performance of works written by emerging composers, and has premiered over twenty new works.  In the Chicago-area Chris has appeared with Accessible Contemporary Music and the Chicago Opera Vanguard.

Prior to coming to Chicago, Chris attended Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, MI, where he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Trumpet Performance.  In West-Michigan, Chris performed with the Battle Creek Symphony, the Civic Theater of Kalamazoo, and was Director of Bands at the Gagie School.

Chris holds a Masters Degree in orchestral conducting from Northwestern University, where he studied with Victor Yampolsky.
